Fires Spur Alarm As California Opens Wildland Fire Season

The California Division of Forestry reports multiple fires since Saturday as warm weather begins the 1975 wildland fire season. The most serious blaze hit Maywood Trailer Park in Corning causing about $18 000 in trailer damage and $2 000 in contents. Several grass and brush fires followed near Seven Mile Creek Alder Springs Road Battle Creek and Red Bluff with losses ranging up to five acres. Firefighting involved Tehama County rural engines Corning Volunteers U S Forest Service and mutual assists. Ranger Howard Bromwell announced Tehama Glens unit fire season opening and noted fuel conditions and increased brush growth.

County Worker Dies In Bulldozer Accident

Fred Will Jr. a 58 year old Red Bluff resident and county road department operator, died at the scene after falling from a moving bulldozer during a gravel screening operation near Thames Creek west of Highway 96W. Road Commissioner Larry Coleman said Will climbed on the tracks to talk to the operator and was fatally injured. it is reportedly the department’s first fatal accident.
