North Vietnam accused of 5000 DMZ violations this year
The U S command said North Vietnam breached the Demilitarized Zone more than 5000 times since the November halt to bombing. Sunday shelling by mortars killed eight Marines and wounded 24, the worst U S casualties along the northern frontier since the pause began seven months ago. Marines near the DMZ fired back, silencing the mortars, but no enemy casualties were reported.
