Grocery Prices Rise Sharply in April

Washington AP reports April grocery prices climbed again though housing and transportation costs rose more slowly. The consumer price index reached 120.2, meaning $12.02 per $1000 of typical family purchases, from the 1967 base. The Labor Department notes the index is 43 percent higher than a year earlier, the smallest annual rise in nearly three years.

County Realtors To Hold Meeting In Red Bluff

Moderate Crop Damage From Strong Tehama Winds

Winds gusting to 42 mph in Red Bluff and above 50 mph south into Corning and Chico caused widespread crop damage and power outages in Tehama County. One inch of snow fell at Manzanita Lake before temperatures dipped to 26, with walnuts, prunes, and peaches hit hardest. Fire crews fought six blazes, including at Anchordoguy Ranch and Vita Bark plant, while utilities reported downed lines and disrupted service.
