U S aircraft sank three Cambodian gunboats and damaged about four others amid retaliation over the Khmer Rouge seizure of the merchant ship Mayaguez. The Pentagon said captives may have been moved from Koh Tang. 39 Americans are aboard the vessel. A destroyer escort Holt and the carrier USS Coral Sea moved toward the area as 1,100 Marines waited in Thailand for orders.

Two cases of unstable dynamite were discovered in an old two story house at Reeds Creek and Wilder Roads west of Red Bluff. Army personnel from the 87th Ordnance Detachment removed 98 sticks 40 percent nitroglycerin and burned them at the county dump after safely transporting them from the site.
