Residents oppose Tehama General hospital shutdown plan

About 160 opponents packed a Red Bluff meeting urging petitions for a referendum on converting Tehama General Hospital to a convalescent facility. Speakers including Walter W. Dale and A V Hornbeck said funds would cover legal action and advertising to place the issue on the ballot.

Supervisors Move To Retain Tehama County Water Rights

Tehama County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution urging state water resources director William Gianelli to file applications for water rights for Tehama County. The plan, by Frank Clendenen and Associates, envisions 1.53 million acre feet annually from the Sacramento River and county streams, with 400,000 acre feet from the river via Red Bluff Dam, to serve irrigation urban and rural needs and allow potential sales.

Calm Follows Riot On Southern Campus as Guardsmen Stand Ready

More than 600 National Guardsmen were held in reserve near Southern University in Baton Rouge after a riot by about 1,000 students. In Memphis a grand jury indicted 109 students for a sit-in at Memphis State University.
