Reds Claim Embassy In Washington As Viet Cong Probe

The Viet Cong Provisional Revolutionary Government claims title to the South Vietnamese embassy in Washington and designates Algeria to take over the premises. Radio Hanoi said the claim was made May 10 in a note to the State Department. The group says it is the legal representative of South Vietnam.

Americans Leaving Laos As Red Grip Tightens

UPI reports the United States may remove some Americans and dependents from Laos as Pathet Lao tightens control and considers closing operations in parts of the country. About 820 Americans in Laos could be affected, with departures for families and officials scheduled for reassignment.

Loren Miller Co Sells Gallatin Road Ranch Holdings

The Loren Miller Company of Red Bluff sold its Tehama County Gallatin Road ranch holdings exceeding 13 000 acres for about 2 700 000 dollars to Wallace Properties of Camarillo. Wallace Properties then traded the property to Parrot Investment of San Francisco and Chico for another ranch in Colusa County. The Tehama County property was bought by Loren Miller Sr in 1943 and Miller Jr now lives in Red Bluff. Western Title Insurance Co handled title transfers. The company, incorporated in Oregon in 1955 and in Tehama County in 1965, plans to stay in cattle business in Red Bluff.

Red Bluff Council Set to Discuss Wastewater Plant Modifications

A special meeting of the Red Bluff City Council is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss modifications to the city's wastewater treatment plant to meet state and federal standards for 1977.

Corning council warns on continuation school near airport

City officials tell Corning high school planners not to block future airport use and warn building a three acre continuation facility east of the municipal airport would be at the school’s own risk. Cost to connect to city sewer could reach about seventy five thousand dollars, with a mile of new line needed. Water hookup would require ordinance changes. Council directs clerk to inform planners of risks and estimated safety line costs.

The Mayaguez kidnapping parallels the 1968 Pueblo incident as both involve captured crews and diplomatic risk. The Mayaguez, a privately owned freighter with suspected military cargo, contrasts with the Pueblo, a Navy ship on a testing mission. 83 aboard the Pueblo and 40 on the Mayaguez.
