Blackwood, Red Bluff certified public accountant and vice president of the Shastas Tehama Trinity Junior College District board of trustees, appointed by Governor Reagan to the California Advisory Council for Vocational Education. Bids Approved For Five New School Buses At Shasta College
Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Junior College District trustees approved a bid for five new school buses at a May 1 special meeting. Three are three axle models carrying about 75 students and equipped with Cummins 220 diesel engines and Gillig or Crown bodies. Two two axle buses will seat about 55 students for mountain runs to McArthur and Weaverville with individual seats for 41-45 students to improve safety on curvy roads. Buses will have storage under seats and at rear for athletic equipment. The board questioned reimbursement if specs aren’t met and noted school buses travel at 55 mph while non school buses may go 70 mph. Maintenance and potential leasing of Redding Elementary buses were discussed, with officials noting elementary buses aren’t suited for junior college students and would strain operating funds.
