Eisenhower Dies After Long Heroic Struggle at 78

Washington AP reports Dwight D. Eisenhower, World War II commander, former U.S. president, died at Walter Reed Army Hospital at 12:25 p.m. EST after a long battle with heart disease and complications from surgery and pneumonia. President Nixon and Lyndon Johnson were notified, with Mamie Eisenhower nearby.

North Vietnamese Ambush U S Convoy For Second Time

In a northwest Saigon area clash the U S convoy repelled another North Vietnamese ambush with Sheridan light tanks armored carriers and air support. Four American tankers were wounded two seriously. Vietnamese casualties included 46 killed with three Americans. Timber and terrain aided firefights as Beehive rocket rounds unleashed mass shrapnel.
