Explosion at Novaply Plant Claims Six Lives

A wood dryer fire at the Novaply particle board plant exploded, killing six and injuring seven with critical burns. Victims include Joseph Allen Carmichael of Anderson and four workers found among the ruins. authorities suspect the new air pollution control system contributed to the disaster.

Cattlemen's Spring Field Day Set For April 3 At Cottonwood Creek Ranch

Tehama County Cattlemen's Association schedules the annual Spring Field Day on April 3 at Cottonwood Creek Ranch, 15 miles north of Red Bluff. Attendees can enjoy a 10 am educational program, a noon steak barbecue for 5.50, a ground beef lunch for 1.75, and afternoon cowhorse demonstrations plus the Big Steer weight guessing contest for ladies. The event is hosted by Arlo Straing and Greene Wiswall.
