County Board Wrap-Up Highlights Sign Vandalism Reward and Road Changes

County residents were reminded of a $200 reward for information leading to arrests over destruction of county property after vandalized road signs in Supervisor Bill Flournoy’s district. The board also approved stop signs at multiple intersections, a through-road designation on River Road, a 35 mph zone on Forward and Manton Roads, opposed SB 1482 to keep Stanislaus River from Wild and Scenic status, and funded a title search for Bowman area property to be used as a park.

Tehama Council weighs 9600 square foot lot minimum

Tehama City Council unanimously sends a zoning amendment proposal to the city attorney setting a 9600 square foot minimum lot size with 80 by 120 foot limits and a shorter side at least half the longer side. Existing 12800 square foot minimum remains unless variances apply.

Judge Denies Hearst Search Challenge in Bank Robbery Trial

UPI reports Federal Judge Oliver J. Carter refused to suppress evidence from the 288 Precita Street residence where SLA members William and Emily Harris were arrested. He ruled Hearst had no standing to contest the Fourth Amendment violation and allowed fingerprints linking her to items found there to remain in the trial.

Judge rules Hearst lacks standing to suppress evidence

A Los Angeles judge ruled the FBI illegally obtained evidence from William and Emily Harris without a search warrant after their capture last fall. The defense motion hinges on proprietary interest and does not apply to Miss Hearst, delaying the bank robbery trial until next week after a full day of hearings and prep.

City Attorney Ford Dies in Sleep at 62

James Gregory Ford longtime Red Bluff attorney and former judge died in his sleep from a heart attack at age 62. Born August 22 1913 in Boston he served as a colonel in the U S Army and taught at Red Bluff High School before practicing law and serving as judge. Funeral arrangements are pending.
