Mountain Lion Trapped Then Evaded by Game Officials
Department of Fish and Game tried to dislodge a young female mountain lion freed by Norton Swett’s dog Bart at Swett’s Ranch near Paynes Creek. Officials lobbed rocks and sprayed water but left the area hoping the cat would leave on its own. The cougar is protected under a hunting moratorium through January 1977, with about 2,400 in California. Swett’s dog Bart is noted for killing rattlesnakes in his yard.

House overrides Ford veto on $2 billion health bill
The House voted 384 to 43 to override President Ford's veto of a $2 billion health services authorization bill, following the Senate's 67 to 15 override. Pistol Discharge Wounds Local Youth Head
A 16 year old Red Bluff boy, Timothy Werlhof, was shot in the head with a .22 caliber revolver while showing the weapon at his parents home on Monroe Street. He was in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Hospital after the accidental discharge occurred around 6:30 p.m. yesterday.
