Closing arguments wrap in Tehama County DA Henry Goff Jr.’s misdemeanor drunken driving case. Officer Sanders testified Goff failed two tests while Goff claimed sobriety and disputed the third. Manager Doerr to Retire From Bank of America in Red Bluff

Arnold C. Doerr will retire August 13 ending a banking career of more than three decades. He has led the Red Bluff Branch nine years after joining Bank of America in 1948 following service at Dominion Bank in Toronto and prior roles in Santa Rosa and Wheatland.

County Budget Public Hearings Set in Tehama County

Tehama County supervisors scheduled public hearings for the final 1971 72 budget on August 10 11 12 and 16 with day and night sessions. Auditor Jimmie Hinkle will arrange the agenda and controversial items include Tehama General Hospital the city county dump social welfare and the road department. State law requires 16 days notice before hearings begin.

Government Allocates 5.7 Million for Sacramento River Projects

The federal government funds Sacramento River works and related waterways. Army Corps of Engineers receives allocations for major and minor tributaries and riverbank protection totaling more than 5.7 million dollars. California Reclamation Bureau approved for CVP diversion and Tehama Colusa Canal projects with 1.225 million each and 97 thousand more for the latter.

Police Investigate Theft Of Pickup From Chevrolet Lot

Red Bluff police are investigating the theft of a white and green pickup from Povey Chevrolet. Craig Povey reported the 1970s truck missing Tuesday morning with no license plates. Tehama County deputies probe a break in at the Richfield Store on Hwy 99W at River Road.

Sweep Operations Extend Into Eastern Cambodia

South Vietnamese troops joined a major sweep in eastern Cambodia aided by U S helicopter gunships jet fighters and B 52 bombers. The drive aims to push North Vietnamese forces away from the border to protect South Vietnamese elections later in the year. The spearhead includes 80 armored vehicles moving north from Highway 1 between Svay Rieng and Frey Veng about 25 miles inside Cambodia.

Tehama County supervisors rejected two bids above twenty thousand dollars to build two maximum security jail cells at Tehama General Hospital. The action jeopardizes Medicare and Medi Cal funding if the CMA survey next fall is failed, warning the facility could fold without payments.

SAN FRANCISCO AP reports the West Coast dock strike entering its fourth week may last at least three or four months, according to union official James Herman who forecasts an extended stoppage.
