Apollo 15 Launch Sends Three Astronauts Toward Moon
Apollo 15 astronauts Col David R. Scott Lt Col James B Irwin and Maj Alfred M Worden blasted from Cape Kennedy aboard Saturn 5 Endeavour at 9 34 a m EDT to begin a three day flight toward lunar orbit and a planned Falcon landing in the Apennine basin. The crew checked systems for hours then sped from 17400 to 24200 mph as one million spectators watched. Scott Irwin Worden will attempt the fifth manned lunar landing in two years with a touchdown near 15000 foot peaks.

Red Bluff Driver Walks Away From Destructive Highway Crash
A Red Bluff man, 20, escaped injury after losing control on Highway 36 near Baker Road, hitting a roadway sign a telephone pole and a barbwire fence. The car was destroyed. Over the weekend five other noninjury crashes were reported by the Highway Patrol including a trailer overturn on South Avenue Corning and several Friday incidents involving Red Bluff and Gerber residents.
