Appeal For Unity Tehama County Indians Join North Cal Indian Council

North Cal Indian Council drew 68 Tehama County Indians and children to Cone Grove Park to form another chapter. Mrs. Charlotte Hughes was named chairman as the group plans an Aug. 4 meeting for an official title and continued unity efforts.

Tax reform school bill stalls in Senate Finance Committee

A $1.2 billion tax reform package backed by Democrats and Gov. Reagan is two votes shy of passage in the Senate Finance Committee. The plan would raise sales, income, and business taxes by about $1 billion a year to fund schools and tax relief, with undecided senators still weighing support.

Earth Resources Satellite In Orbit

The $176 million ERTS spacecraft is in a perfect polar orbit after its Sunday launch from Vandenberg. NASA officials expect first Earth images Tuesday as the 1,900 pound satellite completes a 103 minute orbit under Goddard Space Flight Center control.

Four Bomb Threat Evacuates Tehama County Courthouse

An anonymous caller claimed four bombs were planted in the Tehama County Courthouse prompting a 45 minute evacuation. Sheriff Lyle A. Williams said eight deputies and a city fire rescue unit searched the building. no bombs were found and the Superior Court session was moved across the street to city hall council chambers.

Red Bluff Council to Act on Parcel Maps Tomorrow Night

The Red Bluff City Council will consider final approval of two parcel maps at the 7:30 p.m. meeting in city hall council chambers. One map covers former Air Force Radar Base housing with street deed, two public utility easements, and two drainage easements. The Cardinale subdivision map also awaits adoption after planning commission recommendation.

The Quad County Community Action Agency asks Tehama County Board of Supervisors to reconsider withdrawing from the agency. Three counties have left, leaving Lassen County alone and ineligible for funding. Debris Burn Destroys 75 Bales of Hay on Rodeo Street

A debris burn on Robert Rogers property at Rodeo Street near Highway 99W caused about 230 dollars in damage and destroyed 75 bales of hay. The blaze, reported at 12 41 p m yesterday, was fought by Tehama County units and Richfield and El Camino volunteers. A small cross fire along the railroad was also addressed yesterday by county crews.

Rescuers Nearing Shaft Completion In Exploding Coal Mine

Rescuers near finishing a five inch bore into a burning coal mine where nine men are trapped. No sign of survivors yet as air quality tests and microphones are prepared and geophones are used around the shaft. Delta Levee Break Repaired After Flooding

The 500 foot gap in the delta levee feeding Andrus and Brannan islands was sealed with sand and rock. US Army Corps of Engineers official Carl Greenstein said crews worked round the clock to close the break. The June 21 flood caused about 21 million dollars in damage, mainly to crops and Isleton. Dredges will be used later to add clay atop the rock and sand.

Two Car Mishaps In Tehama County Reported By CHP

The California Highway Patrol reported two minor injuries in Tehama County over the weekend. Patrick Audinet 30 of Redding was treated for a broken clavicle after a single vehicle crash on Interstate 5 at Devil Creek Bridge. His van swerved hit the railing and suffered moderate damage. Four day Tehama County Fair draws over 10 000 attendees as crowding and overflow parking mark its first four day run.
