The Tehama Totem Fair closes with a destruction derby at 8 pm and open air dancing from 10 pm to 1 am. Today includes junior awards, fat stock sale, carving exhibit, mini circus, log scaling, band at 7 pm, and a noon carnival. Exhibits stay open to 11 pm. gates until 1 am. Vertrek to lead the outdoor pavilion.
Philip Lindsey Godman 70 who lived in Red Bluff and Manton before moving to Redding 12 years ago died yesterday in a Redding Hospital after a period of ill health. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Hesse's Funeral Chapel Redding with Hoyt Cole Chapel directing. Interment Lawncrest cemetery. Survivors include widow Nola. two sons Gary and William. three daughters Sharon Brewer Sandra Cole Norma Taylor. a sister Ruth Buchanan. a brother William C Godman. six grandchildren. Native of Missouri.

Funeral services were conducted yesterday at First Lutheran Church Orland for Ursula Vielmetti Zimmerman 85 long time Kirkwood resident who died July 20 in an Orland rest home. She was widow of Balthasar Zimmerman a former dairyman. Surviving are six sons John Frank Fred Martin Earl of Chico Thomas of Red Bluff and others plus 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Burial followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery Corning by FD Sweet and Son Mortuary.
Anna Marie Trutter aged 81 died Wednesday at St Elizabeth Hospital. A Requiem Mass was held yesterday at Sacred Heart Church Red Bluff with Rev Aiden O Reilly presiding. Interment followed at St Marys Cemetery. Pallbearers were Marvin Skinner Bryant Brady Charles Crain Tony Fraga Bob Douglas and Odis Glass. Hoyt Cole Chapel of the Flowers handled arrangements.
James Turner Johnson Sr. aged 60 of Chico died at Presbyterian Hospital in San Francisco yesterday following open heart surgery. Survived by Irene his widow two sons James T. Johnson Jr. of Phoenix and Michael J. Johnson of Chico a daughter Kathy Martin of Proberta ten grandchildren and one great grandson plus relatives in Columbia Missouri Chapel services at Brusie Funeral Home Chico Tuesday 10 a.m. Interment in Tulsa Oklahoma.
Diamond National in Red Bluff will start producing 35 000 cases of moulded pulp trays for the General Service Administration on August 1. Plant manager Bob Bedson announced after a reader questioned the delay in the May 26 contract by Congressman Harold T Johnson. Mrs Stella Kennedy urged action to keep workers employed amid layoffs.
An itinerant airport mechanic, Richard A. Obergfell, 27, was fatally shot by an FBI agent after trying to transfer to a larger plane for a flight to Milan. He lived in Clifton New Jersey and told a landlord of a wish to visit a girlfriend in Italy.
Congressman Harold T. Johnson says the House Appropriations Committee will recommend starting the Thames Creek siphon on the Tehama Colusa canal this fiscal year with 1.2 million dollars added to Bureau of Reclamation funds. The panel also approves 1.225 million for fish facilities work below the Red Bluff Dam, with Senate approval pending.

California Division of Forestry crews fought a fast spreading barley and stubble fire on a ranch west of Willows in Glenn County burning 1000 acres for over four hours. Volunteers alerted by a harvester spark at 3 20 p.m. aided by 31 ground units three air tankers and 84 firefighters with $4500 in damage and no structures lost. A second blaze in Hungry Hollow near Red Bank Road consumed two acres before five pumpers and a bulldozer extinguished it.
