Gasoline Shortage Easing With Production Increases

Signs this week point to a glut easing as gasoline production rises and refineries boost capacity. NPRA says refiners are at 94 percent of capacity with plans to add about 2 million barrels per day in three years. IPAA notes demand still higher than last year but growth slower than forecast. Local surveys report longer hours and fewer purchase limits in some regions while Northwest shortages persist. Cited fears of future rationing mix with improving signs nationwide.

Youngest Mayor Elected in Los Molinos

Steve Joiner at 22 becomes the youngest honorary mayor after penny-donation votes counted at midnight Saturday. He defeated Glenn Cox by about 6500 votes while other candidates included Dave Baba incumbent H T Edwards and an unidentified mystery candidate. The Daily News will not publish tomorrow for the July 4 holiday with offices closed.

Weather forecast and river levels for Tehama region

Fair through Wednesday with slightly warmer conditions. High today 101 and tomorrow 103, low tonight 67, winds up to 15 mph. Thursday looks fair. River stages include Lake Red Bluff 15.7, Bend Bridge 20.7, Tehama Bridge 203.5, Woodson Bridge 168.2 feet. Sunset 8:42 p.m. and sunrise 5:45 a.m. PDT.

Survey on sexuality attitudes in Red Bluff planned by Stanford researcher

Dr. Peter Montgomery of Stanford will lead a survey on sexual attitudes among Red Bluff parents and teens, with Dr. William Miller assisting. Financed by The Stanford Fund, the project will contact about 400 randomly chosen residents by questionnaire. Results will be shared with participants and local agencies.

Many Activities Planned In County For July 4

A busy July 4 schedule spans Bend Bridge to Red Bluff City Park. Kiwanis raft race starts at 9 with finish about 11 30 at Red Bluff Park. A 10 o clock Los Molinos parade names State Senator Fred Marler as grand marshal and Honorary mayor Steve Joiner is sworn in. An art show follows in Red Bluff Park afternoon. Tehama County Band performs at Red Bluff Park and firefighters present a post dark fireworks display.

Red Bluff Council To Meet Tonight for Zoning Hearing

The Red Bluff City Council will hold a public hearing at 8 p.m. on a proposal to prezone 36.8 acres south of John Sutter Square for a mobile home subdivision. The regular meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the council chamber at city hall.

Escapes Bring Man Jail Terms In Tehama County

Theodore Albert Milojevich 27 of South Lake Tahoe received two concurrent 180 day jail terms and a $500 fine on two felony escape charges after a jury found him guilty of twice escaping Tehama County jail. Judge Wetter suspended part of the sentence citing questioned arrest justification.

Traffic Control Measures Planned At Woodson Bridge

Woodson Bridge near Gardiner Ferry Road will implement No Parking zones on both river banks and No Pedestrians Allowed on the bridge before during and after the Independence Day fireworks. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained, CHP and park rangers to assist traffic and parking.

Former Red Bluff Man On National TV Tonight

Robert Hicks of Red Bluff appears on the Fourth of July Special Stars and Stripes with Doc Severinsen's stage band at 10 p.m. on Channel 7A. The 24-year-old trumpeter recently toured with The Brady Bunch and toured Japan with Percy Faith after graduating from Red Bluff High School in 1965 and studying music at Cal State Los Angeles.

Betty Grable Dies of Cancer at 56 in California

Betty Grable, famed pinup star and wartime icon, died in Santa Monica at age 56 from lung cancer. She had been hospitalized since April at St. John's hospital. Grable, a top box office draw in the 1940s, was celebrated for her Technicolor features and iconic cheesecake photos that boosted morale among GIs.
