Living cost rise tops 17 years in 1968

Government data show Dec price rise of 0.2 percent while 1968 average living costs jumped 4.7 percent the largest since 1951. Wages rose 5.5 percent but price gains eroded most of the advance. Major retail increases came in medical care clothing and housing.
