Vice President Nguyen Cao Ky of South Vietnam said he is willing to meet the other side in private talks to discuss peace in Vietnam. He added he is ready to meet whenever and wherever, in Paris or elsewhere.
Michael Weeks, 21, a former Red Bluff resident, died last Wednesday from combat wounds in Vietnam. His mother Mrs Joy Moore of Red Bluff received notice from the Defense Department Friday. Weeks had been in Vietnam just over two months. He graduated Red Bluff High School in 1965 and studied at Oregon State for three years before joining the Army. He married Cathy Bowen of Lake Oswego, Ore., on May 10, 1968. He is survived by his wife, mother, father Edwin H. Weeks of Coos Bay, Ore., sister Marci Weeks, brother John L. Weeks, paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Edwin Hobbs of Corning, maternal grandmother Nellie Souza of Central Valley, maternal grandfather William Leighton of Healdsburg, and aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs Herbert Weeks of Corning.
Red Bluff police investigate two weekend burglaries at Brooks Drug Store and Witis Pharmacy with narcotics and cash stolen. At Albers Milling in Red Bluff, five pairs of boots two horse halters boot hooks and a saddle valued at about 500 dollars were taken.

Barry Gravier, a 25 year old Red Bluff man, leaped into cold swift water to reach Lori Winning after her horse fell in Paynes Creek slough. He held her securing a rope aided by Donald Kerry while others pulled them to safety. Deputies praised Gravier for likely saving her life.
Army troops were deployed in Karachi and Lahore to quell day long antigovernment rioting. A 24 hour curfew was imposed in Lahore and large parts of Karachi amid arson looting and brick throwing as civil unrest spread in West Pakistan.
A young woman Iris Pope, 23, Downey, was killed and two others injured when wind toppled trees onto cabins at Yosemite Lodge. Jane Hand of Bell and Sharon Gulley of Whittier survived. Paul Eddy of Fullerton and companion were hospitalized after another tree struck their cabin. Rangers cited rain-saturated soil and 40 to 50 mph winds.
Lyndon B. Johnson writes in a 30 000 word commentary for the Encyclopedia Britannica Book of the Year to be published March 1 urging the Nixon era to extend domestic programs he championed. He says he faced Vietnam choice and hopes future administrations keep Office of Economic Opportunity efforts to fight poverty.
