Red Bluff Bull Sale crowns top herd bulls and record gelding prices

The Red Bluff Bull Sale features top Angus and Shorthorn bulls averaging 465 and 730 dollars respectively while the Quarter Horse Gelding Sale sets a record with 37 geldings at an average of 832. Top prices reach 4800 for a working cowhorse and 950 for a champion Angus bull. Roy Traylor of Pomona buys Barbird Captain and Lisa's Bird, plus Doc Wiggly for 2700, 2800, and 2700 respectively. Charlie Adams Day honors include Cattleman of the Year recognitions for California and Nevada recipients.

Lodge Opens Peace Talks Urges Mutual Vietnam Troop Withdrawal

U S Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge urged mutual withdrawal of all foreign troops from South Vietnam and proposed immediate reestablishment of a DMZ between North and South Vietnam as a concrete first step toward peace. He said the U S would enter talks responsibly with an open mind and present carefully considered proposals. The NLF and Hanoi demanded an end to Saigon’s government and a peace cabinet, accusing the U S of insincerity.

Man Arrested Here Wanted In Nevada For Rape Murder

Leon Harley Young also known as Leon Harley Andersen, 34, of Sacramento, was arrested in Red Bluff on Tuesday. Nevada authorities say he is wanted for rape and murder in Wells, Humboldt County, and a federal parole violation. He allegedly abducted a woman on Highway 97, then raped and stabbed her to death. extradition waiver to Nevada will be sought.

Red Bluff Soldier Killed in Vietnam

Private Michael Weeks 21, a Red Bluff High School graduate, was killed January 22 in Vietnam from a battlefield wound. He was the son of Mrs. Jay Moore of Red Bluff and Edwin Weeks of Coos Bay Oregon and married Cathy Bowen of Lake Oswego Oregon on May 10 1968.

Mason Named Operations Officer at Bank of America Red Bluff

Theodore S. Mason promoted to operations officer at Bank of America Red Bluff Branch announced by Manager A C Doerr. He transfers from the Nevada City Branch where he served as operations officer for a year. A Sacramento native, he joined the bank in 1965 and progressed through the Arden Fair Oaks Branch in Carmichael after a 1966 training program.

Velva Decious Dies After Long Illness

Velva L. Decious 179 of Darryville died in a local hospital after a two year illness. She was a native of Butte County and lived in Tehama County for 50 years. Survived by son in law James N. Froome Jr and two grandchildren Kathy Ward Red Bluff and Jim Froome Sr Arcada. Funeral Monday at 1 p.m. Fickert Mason Chapel. Burial Oak Hall Cemetery. Donations to American Cancer Society requested.

Funeral for Anna Aubie Drane Held at Hoyte Cole Chapel

Funeral services for Anna Aubie Drane were conducted by Interim Pastor Rev. Walter G. Holbrook at Hoyte Cole Chapel of the Flowers. Drane died Tuesday morning four days after her 90th birthday. Pallbearers included Chester Rhoades Sterling Jones Lavery Jones Alden Hart Lloyd Harness and Llewellyn Kraft. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery family plot.

Storms Hit Hard In South Struck by Severe Weather in California

Storms cause mudslides and floods across Southern California killing Michael Riordan as a freight train derailed near Santa Barbara. Firefighters were briefly trapped by another mudslide as heavy rains and cold weather grip the region. Northern California also faced rain with no major floods reported.

Antelope Numbers Climb in 1969 Aerial Census

California Fish and Game reports 1969 antelope census total of 2 875 across Modoc Lassen and Siskiyou counties with no counts in Shasta. Modoc leads with 1 595, Lassen 1 031, Siskiyou 244. Shasta counts are absent as animals winter in neighboring counties.
