Corning City Council through City Attorney C A Stromsness has demurred to a seven point damages suit by former police chief Jerrold A Rowe and his wife Margaret seeking over 274000. The hearing was postponed to February 2 after Rowe's attorneys requested more time. Rowe alleges violation of constitutional rights from his 1972 dismissal and claims a conspiracy. Stromsness argues dismissal was lawful and that avenues other than mandamus exist.

A powerful bomb exploded in a downtown San Francisco highrise injuring two and causing $200,000 damage. The Red Guerrilla Family claimed responsibility in a note to UPI, saying the attack supported Iranians fighting the CIA backed Shah. The Tehran consulate on the 13th floor of Embarcadero Center was only lightly damaged while nearby chemical firm offices suffered extensive harm. The warning preceded the blast by 45 minutes.
