Fred Warren Whitlock 95 lifelong Paskenta resident died in Corning Memorial Hospital after two weeks of hospitalization. Survived by 27 grandchildren 52 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren with services planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Brothers Chapel. Burial in Paskenta Cemetery. Remembrances to favorite charities requested.

Two and a half acres burned near Dora and Marguerite Avenues in Corning after debris burning escaped control. Three Tehama County Rural Fire Department units and a Corning Jaycee tanker responded with no structures damaged. Born in Elizabeth Switzerland he came to the U S as a child, lived in Portage Wisconsin before moving to Corning in 1926. Survived by four sons Carl Frank Bill George and four daughters Mary Moses Elsie Caroline Eunice and 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Services set for 2 30 p m Monday at Hall Brothers Chapel with burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

SACRAMENTO AP The Reagan and Nixon administrations have taken the first step toward creating a 2.5 million legal aid program for the poor in California. Gov Reagan said the plan aims to improve access to professional legal services. The Office of Economic Opportunity will provide 150000 for planning the California Legal Services Foundation and inviting program proposals. Reagan previously clashed with OEO over California Rural Legal Assistance, financed until December 1972, amid accusations of political activity and harassment of his administration.
