Tax Reform Act of 1969 Lifts Paychecks in 1971

The Tax Reform Act of 1969 cuts federal tax deductions for singles and low income, raises standard exemptions to 650, and increases the standard deduction to 1500 or 13 percent. Social Security tax rises from 4.8 to 5.2 percent, adding about 31.20 for a 7800 dollar earner. High earners with salaries and commissions receive relief. overall taxpayers gain more take home pay.

Volunteer Army Plans Outlined to Boost All Voluntary Service

The Pentagon unveiled a major plan this year for an all volunteer force aided by a $2 billion GI pay and incentive raise. The program includes fewer KP duties, more barracks privacy, educational opportunities, and higher enlistment ranks for skilled men to end the draft.

Doctor Joins Lassen Medical Group on Oak Street

Dan E. McDaniel M D a UC School of Medicine graduate has joined Lassen Medical Group 343 Oak St Red Bluff to practice family medicine alongside Harve Jourdan William Martin and Robert Jurich. The 30 year old comes from the San Francisco area and previously trained in Seattle and Sonoma County before serving in the U S Navy Medical Corps in Spain.

Tehama County Trustees Election Set For April 20

Trustee elections for Tehama County school districts will be held Tuesday April 20 in a consolidated election. Declaration of Candidacy forms are available at the County Schools Office 238 Sout Main Red Bluff and must be filed by 5 p.m. Feb. 25. Candidates must be registered voters and district residents. Each district will have at least one vacancy on its board of trustees.

Antelope 4-H Club Potluck Dinner Tomorrow

Laird Says Enemy Threat Diminished in South Vietnam

Secretary of Defense Melvin R. Laird reported the communist armed threat has declined in South Vietnam over the past year while rising in southern Laos and that in Cambodia it remains similar. He said U.S. troop withdrawals will meet Nixon deadlines as Paris and Vietnamization progress are monitored. He described morale as mixed but views winding down as a favorable problem for commanders.

Escapees Bound Over To County Superior Court

John Medina and Richard Lee, two of three men who escaped Plum Creek Conservation Camp on December 27, were bound over to Superior Court after preliminary hearings in Red Bluff Justice Court. William Crosby’s preliminary hearing was set for today. The trio allegedly were arrested in Yolo County driving a stolen car the day of the escape. Medina faced six months to ten years for grand theft. Lee had one year to life for second degree robbery.

Bend Woman Hurt When Auto Strikes Bridge

Nancy Norman Renish a 40 year old Bend woman was injured Friday when her car struck an icy spot on the Bend Bridge causing loss of control. The vehicle sustained total damage and Renish was listed in good condition at St Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff according to Highway Patrol.

Two Small Tehama County Fires Cause $550 Damages

Forestry Division reports two weekend fires in Tehama County south of Corning and north of Los Molinos. Glenn Connally’s home on Simpson Road suffered $500 damage from a wiring fire behind the stove. Robert Heard’s roof incurred $50 damage from a faulty flue. Four Forestry units aided by Corning and Richfield volunteers contained both blazes.
