Soviet Backed Forces Launch New Angola Offensive

Soviet backed forces attacking from the north press the southern front in Angola. The Popular Movement took Gungo, with 19 prisoners including three South African soldiers. Palestinians Overrun Beirut Front in Fierce Fighting

Several thousand Palestinian guerrillas broke out of the Tal Zaatar camp and seized a two mile arc in eastern Beirut as Christian forces faced losses. Casualties were estimated at 15 dead and 35 wounded with tổng toll reaching about 8,100 dead and 17,250 wounded across nine months of Christian Moslem warfare.

Valley Nitrogen gains approval for Kirkwood ammonia facility use permit

Tehama County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a 20 000 ton ammonia storage tank use permit in A 2 district for Valley Nitrogen Products of Fresno. The project 3 million dollars underwent an environmental review with a negative declaration filed for phase one. No opposition was raised during the meeting.

Logging Industry Exempted From Impact Report Rules In Private Lands

Sacramento UPI reports California officials exempt loggers from environmental impact reports for private land timber harvesting. The certification by Resources Secretary Claire Dedrick allows plans to be approved without separate EIRs, with a public hearing set for February 10 before final adoption.
