A white longhaired man in his twenties and three companions stole a tape deck and speakers from a Corning area trailer yesterday afternoon. Deputies were alerted at about 4 30 p m after witnesses saw the man enter via a window and flee toward a waiting car. Owner Cathleen Bateman reported the theft.
A Corning woman, Renee Ann Marsch, 458 Chestnut St., suffered minor injuries yesterday afternoon when her northbound car rear collided with John Magaldi’s car on Old 99W near Gerber Avenue about 5 p.m. Marsch was passing as the other vehicle slowed for an orchard pruner parked roadside.
California GOP chair Gordon C. Luce introduced an All in the Family unity plan at the 1973 state convention to curb infighting over Reagan succession. Haerle won the number two spot over Campbell amid Reagan backing and calls for positive campaigning.

A burglar who stole a partly filled whiskey bottle from a trailer near Redding also took a rifle two shirts and a radio. Sheriff deputies say Burt Sharp a local miner tested cyanide by putting it in the whiskey and warned the thief could die if he drinks it.
A burglar stole three dollars worth of food from Jennie's Auto Court store at 2370 Main St. The rear door was forced and Jerry Ostrander reported the incident. Lt. John Faulkner said the thief may have fled before finishing. Ireland calls national elections for Feb 28.
