Three rear sleeping cars of the Coast Starlight AMTRAK derailed near Anderson in Shasta County injuring a few dozen and prompting swift rescue. About 450 aboard. 12 hospitalized with mostly minor cuts and bruises. cause appears to be a wheel-structure mechanical failure. The incident left several cars derailed but tracks remained undamaged as the main train separated and stopped after emergency brakes.
