Red Bank Rezone Denied by Planning Commissioners

Planning commissioners denied a proposed amendment to reclassify 419.86 acres west of Red Bank from AG to AT to permit 10 acre parcels. Developer Philip J. Cicala led the proposal amid concerns the soil is mostly low-capability class 4 and the general plan was hastily prepared. Other actions included approvals and denials of various rezonings and use permits.

Lassen Ski Area To Open After Heavy Snowfall

Pacific storms bring over 7 inches of rain in Northern California with heavy snow in the Sierras. Lassen Ski Area reports 22 inches of new snow and plans to open today with both rope tows and possibly the poma lift if snowfall continues. Weather alerts warn of hazardous mountain driving and strong winds while major highways remain open.

Bergland to Meet Farm Strikers Amid Call for Action

Washington AP The Carter administration plans talks with striking farmers after a 70 minute governors led conference call. Secretary Bergland agreed to meet farm leaders if states supply names by Dec 28. no date or location set. Governors urged direct negotiations and stronger action to stop the disruption.

Computer Model Predicts Above Normal Rainfall in California

Berkeley based climatologist Orman Granger says a century long statistical model indicates California will receive 160 percent of the 100 year normal rainfall from November through April for lowland coastal areas and at least average rainfall for the next two winters. The model also suggests higher precipitation on the western Sierra slope with an expected 95 percent confidence. Granger notes oscillation patterns over 26 months five to six years and 30 years and acknowledges some meteorologists may question his long term methods.
