Jobless rate in state rises to 5.3 percent
California unemployment edged up from 5.2 to 5.3 percent in November the Reagan administration reported. Officials cite heavy November rains reducing farm, lumber, and construction work and note fuel shortages may also influence rates. Nationwide rate stood at 4.7 percent. In November 456,000 Californians were unemployed, up 59,000 from October while total employed fell by 86,000 to 8.64 million.
