The Price Commission will order hundreds of millions in price rollbacks and customer refunds in the coming weeks as profit margin limits take hold. Chairman C. Jackson Grayson Jr. outlined the move to curb inflation.
Boots livestock Transportation Inc. president and Tehama County Hospital and Safety Commission member since 1969 resigns accusing four of five supervisors and local news media of opposition. He urges residents to attend the next Supervisors meeting over Tehama General Hospital ambulance service and Radar Base recreation plans.
Two people were injured in separate Saturday evening accidents. Mary Castillo of Gerber sustained minor injuries when a pickup driven by James Patchen struck a parked car she sat in on San Benito Avenue near Ventura. Bruce VanDurer of Spring Valley was listed in satisfactory condition after his 1949 International van overturned on Interstate 5 north of the Glenn County line, apparently after he fell asleep.
North Vietnamese tanks and troops broke through northern Kontum defenses in the central highlands in a column of more than 20 tanks. They seized a seven mile highway lifeline, split Kontum Province, and isolated thousands. A U S helicopter was shot down near Dak To with four crewmen killed. US planes suffered losses including two aircraft shot down and nine wounded. The Da Nang air base faced a major 13 round rocket barrage as B52 bombers operated near Hanoi and Thanh Hoa.
Red Bluff police implicated two 14 year old boys and possibly a third in a string of burglaries over the past month. Officer Robert Sanders spotted the youths with walkie talkies and recovered stolen CB radios matching those described. The pair were taken to juvenile hall for detention hearings amid ties to numerous listed break-ins.
Three adjoining Red Bluff shops were burglarized over the weekend with losses exceeding $200. Western Fishing Service reported $70 in fishing tackle missing from a rear patio entry. JoAnn's Art Gallery saw $132 worth of art objects stolen while Red Bluff Collection Service had no losses. Rudolph Vanek filed the report.
Tehama County's newly installed grand jury returned 16 indictments on narcotics charges. Indictments names are withheld with charges not disclosed per district attorney Henry Goff Jr.
Apollo 16 returns from the moon with 245 pounds of samples believed to reveal the moon’s volcanic origin. Astronauts John Young Charles Duke and Thomas Mattingly join in a linkup and prepare the 66 hour voyage home with splashdown planned in the Pacific Thursday.
Red Bluff Union High School trustees convene at 8 p.m. at 1525 Douglass St. for a regular board meeting with an open campus proposal and items on student rights, gifted programs, calendar, personnel, and the superintendent’s salary. The session is open to the public.

El Camino Irrigation District directors urge all landowners to back a proposed compromise settlement for the $2.57 million bond debt. The plan, supported by multiple bondholders and CPAs, would reduce the debt about 10 percent on all bonds and 50 percent on merged bonds, with net relief about $1.36 million after costs.
