Commandos Rescue Airmen During DMZ Invasion Action
An allied commando team rescued Lt. Col. Sceal E. Hambleton and Lt. Mark N. Clark behind enemy lines near the DMZ while seven U S airmen were killed. The operation used B52 bombers as decoys and involved a dangerous river crossing by sampan. Hambleton, injured but calling air strikes, reached South Vietnamese forces and was flown to Da Nang. Clark's copilot remains missing and a helicopter crew was killed in the search.
