The Soviet government placed a new satellite named Salute into Earth orbit, described as a scientific station with no crew aboard. Reports say a possible future manned linkup is contemplated, with Bochum Observatory noting an early morning launch time and radio signals once reserved for manned flights.
Ken Stanton named All Around Cowboy at the 49th Red Bluff Round-Up winning 600 dollars. He earned the honor through points in bareback bronc riding and bull riding as Irving Wood recovers from a spill. Other event winners include Ron Cauley in Wood’s event and multiple two day winners in arena events.
Voters in Antelope Flournoy and Elkins districts go to polls tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Trustees are elected or re elected with several bond and tax questions. Antelope considers a $1.85 per $100 rate for five years about $25 000. Flournoy asks to issue $80 000 bonds and borrow $115 000 from the state. Elkins seeks $150 000 in bonds to replace the school with seven percent interest limits.
Tehama County supervisors will hold a 1 30 p m public hearing tomorrow on the housing study portion of the county plan. James Campbell authored the study and will present it. The board will also decide on medical bills including 325 in disputed charges and standby fees from five physicians. The meeting starts at 9 a m in the county courthouse.
One alarm was reported last week by the Red Bluff Fire Department. The call came Saturday at 4 37 p m from 1635 Scottsdale Way for a resuscitation.

Ten thousand spectators watched Red Bluff celebrate with a grand parade themed The Old and New Frontier. Montgomery Ward entry won the $35 cash prize for an old-time river boat, while Commander Industries took $25 for best commercial float.
Congressman Bizz Johnson announced that Tehama County unincorporated communities will be eligible Friday for federally subsidized flood insurance. The program covers one to four family homes and small businesses via local agents and a national insurer association, addressing recurring Sacramento River flood dangers.
Four accidents on Tehama County roads damaged seven vehicles. Stephen Gorham, 19, of Dunsmuir, fell asleep on Interstate 5 near the Highway 36 overcrossing and hit a fence, then was treated and released at St Elizabeth Hospital. A Susanville man escaped injury when his pickup and horse trailer collided with another car at Stice Road and Highway 36E.
An estimated 14 000 rodeo fans enjoyed sweater weather at the 49th annual Red Bluff Round-Up. About 7 000 spectators watched more than 100 professional riders and several amateurs compete Saturday and Sunday in the event billed as the worlds most dangerous sport.
