Nixon plans major sell off of strategic stockpile

President Nixon proposed selling 16 commodities valued at 4.1 billion from the national stockpile to curb inflation. Legislation would authorize disposal of 1.9 billion more. total 6.0 billion in materials, aiming to trim the stockpile to a 700 million reserve for a year.

Navy Secretary Announces 274 Base Closings

Navy Secretary John Warner told Congress that 274 installations nationwide will close to save about 1 billion dollars yearly. Closings include the Boston Navy Yard, with Philadelphia and Portsmouth yards remaining open, and will cost about 16,640 military and 21,172 civilian jobs.

College Proposal On Ballot Tomorrow

Voters will decide on a proposed rearrangement of trustee areas for the Shasta Tehama Trinity college district and select candidates for Red Bluff High School and Tehama County Elementary Schools boards. Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The measure, led by Robert Rehberg, affects county representation and would take effect July 1 1975. Evergreen district bond issue of 262000 also on ballot with high school race featuring 13 candidates for three seats.

Nixon plans grand tour of Western Europe this fall

President Nixon plans a European trip in the fall described by White House sources as a grand tour to Great Britain France West Germany and Italy. Aides say the visit will include the largest Western European nations though no dates were given.

Supreme Court upholds Maine Elks liquor license revocation

The Court, in a 6 to 3 vote, lets stand Maine's decision to revoke 15 Elks lodges licenses for racial discrimination. Maine Supreme Judicial Court invalidated them Dec 11 under the 1969 antidiscrimination law. The ruling reinforces state power to act in liquor license issues despite a prior Pennsylvania decision.

Suspect Arrested In Redding Slaying

Miley Glazzard age 45 of Redding was held on suspicion of murder in the death of Jacqueline Kay Dorman age 22. Dorman was found in her trailer park home Sunday morning with stab wounds to the stomach and throat and a gunshot to the head, police said.

Red Bluff Round-Up Week Adds Eighth Annual Play-Day

The Eighth Annual Red Bluff Play-Day precedes the 51st Red Bluff Round-Up on April 21–22. The Friday April 20 event features top cow horses competing for cash prizes and several trophies including the C.F. Stover Trophy and Jim Owens Cattle Company Trophy. The Vaquero Shop will present buckles to winners, and admission is $1.00 for all entrants.

Cowboy Golfers Vie For Trophies At Round-Up Week

Cowboys plan to compete in the 51st Red Bluff Round-Up weekend at Wilcox Oaks Golf Club with the E. L. Hart Perpetual Memorial Trophy for low gross. The event runs Thursday with special awards and a bowling tournament at the Lariat Bowl on weekend days drawing many entrants.

Ten thousand seven hundred pledged at Red Bluff Walk-A-Thon

The annual March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon drew 350 participants from Red Bluff to Gerber and back finishing at City Park. Pledges totaled 10700 with Marian Ameral raising the most money, sponsors contributing 1077 for her 20 miles.

Skylab rolls to pad for eight month orbital test

The Skylab space station slowly moves from its hangar to the launch pad at Cape Kennedy aboard a Saturn 5 rocket. The 334 foot laboratory will launch unmanned at 1 30 p m EDT May 14 for a 270 mile high orbit with crewed Apollo command ship to follow on May 15.
