President Nixon urged Congress to set federal unemployment benefits at no less than 50 percent of the worker’s weekly wage with state maximums and extend coverage to about 635,000 hired farm hands. He also pressed for restrictions on benefits for strikers and for penalties on denying benefits.
Los Molinos Mutual Water Company reelected three members to a three year term on its board. Harold H. Combes district 4, Charles R. Crain district 6, and Harvey A. Clark district 7 will continue serving alongside Harrison Daugherty, Robert L. Hoskins, J. Marvin Smith and E. Dalton Young. Ballot counters included Nina Micke Sally Lin dauer Roberta Smith and others.
UPI reports a U.S. District Court ruled the Nixon administration must stop dismantling the Office of Economic Opportunity. Judge William B. Jones said OEO, created by Congress and extended through mid 1975, cannot be abolished by the President. The ruling voids planned June 30 terminations of Community Action program support.

Tehama County Sheriff Lyle Williams and deputy Ernie Tamagni purchase Deer Lick Springs resort in southern Trinity County for 110000. The 106 acre site near Platina includes cabins a recreation hall a grocery store and a restaurant and will be developed with seasonal operation May through October while Williams completes his term. The cold no sulphur spring resort founded in 1906 was previously owned by Deer Lick Medicinal Co New Jersey and is one of three such springs worldwide.

Red Bluff area hikers gear up for the third March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon on Saturday starting 8 a.m. at Red Bluff City Park. The 20 mile route goes to Gerber and returns with a noon to 4 p.m. Chico band welcome at the park. Proceeds aid birth defect research. minimum pledge is $20 per walker.
