California bill proposes state land lease back for small farmers
Senate SB679 by Sen. David A. Roberti would let farmers with 160 acres or less sell to the state and lease back for $1 an acre to preserve open spaces and reduce property tax. The plan targets about 2,000 U.S. small farms closing weekly and compares to the Williamson Act. The program is “first come, first served” and no farmers are yet contacted.
