Two Red Bluff Superintendents Split District Roles
Red Bluff voters gain two full fledged superintendents effective May 1 with Glen D. Smith returning to the elementary district and E A Murphy named superintendent of the high school district. The resignations of Smith and Murphy were accepted at a joint meeting of the high school and elementary boards. About 20 people attended the 5 p.m. session at the district office and letters of resignation were read and approved. No executive session was requested.

Fire Damages Rafters at Diamond National Plywood Plant
Friction in a circular cutting blade overheated blower pipes at Diamond National's Plywood Division causing minor damage to overhead rafters. Sparks from the saw ignited sawdust and chips that were drawn into the dust collection system and dumped outside. Red Bluff Fire Department Chief Tom Gauthier reported the blaze stayed contained with limited damage.

Tehama votes to extend city water to B Street residents with costs borne by users. The Grays must pay 250 to run a pipe under the railroad tracks 75 hookup for ¾ inch line and about 20 a month, water limited to household and garden use. Man Returned On Bad Check Charges
A 71 year old man Ralph Crespi of Brooklyn New York was returned to the county jail after being arrested in Tucson Arizona on a warrant for unlawful flight. Crespi allegedly cashed checks totaling 3800 including a 2500 check to Shasta Flight Service for a Bahamas trip. He had a local checking account and a 48 hour spree. Police say Crespi has relatives in the area.
