The South Shasta Lines began its April May anniversary run at the G A Humann ranch south of Gerber drawing a 210 person crowd including visitors from Los Angeles. The 0 gauge model recreates the Southern Pacific route from Gerber to Dunsmuir and marks Tehama County’s 100th railroad milestone with four one hour showings each Sunday at 1 2 3 and 4 p m Admission is 1 50 for adults 75 cents for kids 12 and under. A second two foot gauge outside line and a farm equipment museum complete the display. Corning Girl Scouts run a refreshment booth and access to the ranch is via Gerber Tehama or Leos Molinos routes. A new Cab forward mallet locomotive and McCloud River Canyon scene are highlighted this year.

Escaped Suspect Recaptured by Tehama Deputies
Melvin Francis Martin 21 of Gerber was stopped on Gerber Road by Deputy Don Gray in a 1965 Plymouth. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and marijuana possession, then recaptured and jailed eight hours after contact. A 17 year old associated suspect was involved and later lodged in juvenile hall. Police also investigated thefts at Lyle Perrine Wrecking yard and a home break in at Dwaine Hillian’s residence.
