Roanoke welcomed many visitors for a community dinner in Medlin's Grove. Tables were spread with roast meat, barbecued lamb and chicken, vegetables, salads, and cakes. Local businessmen showed cordial hospitality to guests and reporters from the Record and Chronicle joined the event.

The War Department plans to send two more cavalry regiments to the Mexican border after a raid to steal horses ended with four rebels killed, one wounded, and two captured. Orozoco is identified as leading the rebels. Troopers from Fort Reilly and D A Russell will reinforce border lines.

John W. Mays a prominent northern Denton County farmer and Prairie Chapel resident died at his Pilot Point home Friday night after a brief illness from locked bowels. Wilson learned of the death and visited Pilot Point. Funeral arrangements had not been made.
