Associated Press dispatch from St. Petersburg reports confirmation of a new land area in the Arctic Ocean. Admiral Wilkitty, the discoverer, describes a narrow strip about 200 miles long.
National Geographic members say a supposed continent 1900 miles north of Asia may be the final great land discovery. A St. Petersburg report reduced the land to a 200 mile strip, disappointing earlier Greenland scale hopes. Russian flagship Taimyr and Waygatch reached St. Michaels Alaska with news of a new uninhabited mountainous shore north of Siberia in latitude 81 north.
The party reports visible volcanic peaks with possible activity and vapor, snow to the sea, reindeer in summer, numerous walrus and birds, and several polar bears. The team plans to move next to Vladivostok.
Walter Shook proprietor of the Park Hotel was shot five times and killed by Dave Osborne a special policeman at the corner of First Street and Avenue A Temple. Osborne surrendered after the shooting and family troubles are cited as the motive Shook leaves a widow and several children.

The jury acquitted Mrs. Tennie Wimberly of murdering her husband Lon W. Wimberly in October 1911 after a four hour argument. The trial, in Sixteenth District Court, ended at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday with the verdict of not guilty.

Washington Oct 13 A White House conference between President Wilson and Senators revealed strong sentiment against any recess while the currency bill is pending. The meeting underscored opposition to adjourning before Congress acts on the measure.
President Wilson announced he did not favor a recess of Congress at present. He urged continuous consideration of the pending currency bill and said he did not want haste that would harm its value but would welcome Senate improvements to the House bill at once.
Two seats on the Interstate Commerce Commission will open soon as Judson Clements retires December 31 and Charles A. Prouty leaves next year. A Georgia Democrat and a Vermont Republican are the target successors with several names urged, including Allison Mayfield Texas ex Gov Glenn and Rep Webb North Carolina.
