S B Cornelius of Palmer and his family including his wife sister in law were killed when a westbound interurban struck their Palmer auto on a grade crossing near Arlington at 8 PM. The car was crushed and only Cornelius survived. the motorman suffered facial cuts and could not stop the car for 200 yards due to broken power brakes.
New York Oct 7 The death of Big Jack Zelig did not derail the Becker trial plans. About 250 talismans rumbling crowds awaited the jury pick as Becker was set to be brought across the Bridge of Sighs. Police inquiry found no evidence Zelig’s death aimed to thwart justice.

In Greenville on October 5 a pistol duel left Assist ant Police Chief John L. Southall Special Deputy Sheriff R Emmett Shipp and Sam Simmons dead. John Cooper riding in a buggy with Simmons was arrested after the exchange. Police Chief Southall Shipp and Deputies Harrington Duncan confronted two riders and Simmons fired first fatally wounding them.
