Mob seals fate of condemned prisoner in Texas jail riot
A mob broke into the Abilene county jail at 2 am, overpowered Sheriff Peevey, and shot Tom Barnett to death as he stood awaiting punishment for the murder of Alex Sears. Fifteen shots hit Barnett. Sears’ murder had sparked the pursuit. The mob planned to burn the jail pile, while Judge Blanton said he will act and an investigation is expected.
