Lockhart March 11 F L Tiller a State University law student was elected to succeed Representative McNeal who died of meningitis by a three to one margin over H L King.
Myron C. Blalock, a State University student, won the State House seat by a ten to one margin over J. R. Wilson to succeed the late Representative Killingsworth who died of meningitis.
Associated Press dispatch from Washington reports Dr James Mythen of Baltimore testifying at a parade hearing he witnessed police neglecting duties. He recalls one officer responding with a profanity filled remark, quoting a phrase he said.
Exchange National Bank of Denton Texas announces its quarters are now in the old post office building just south of the bank building and will operate there until the new bank building is finished.
The escaped murder suspect LD Goss is reported found in Oklahoma after a prior plea of guilty to murder for predatory acts in 1941. The van involved was linked to the case and given a four year sentence upon discovery.
A telegram from Huntsville Prison records notes escaped murderer Ed Goss, once sentenced to 99 years for the Henry Davis murder near Gainesville Cooke County in 1909, has been found in Oklahoma. The case stunned Cooke and involved a mistrial, then a guilty plea for first degree murder. The District Clerk forwarded certified indictment copies to Oklahoma.
Belgrade March 11 The Austrian government today forbade Servia from sending troops to help Montenegro seize the Turkish fortress at Scutari.
In San Antonio on March 11 a charred male corpse was found in the home of L S Spencer a member of the city fire department. The house burned early today and was believed empty while Spencer and his family were away. A scabbard with a 38 caliber pistol was found strapped to the body.
Reports state ederal refugees from Monclova have reached Eagle Pass last night. Officials say a suspension of railroad traffic is likely to cause trouble and worsen local conditions along the border.
Reported Federals defeat a large force of Arramistas driving them toward Mosquiz while General Aubert advances on Mosquiz to confront Carrancistas. Envoys spread rebel propaganda among Kickapoo Indians as supporters flock to Carranza. In Eagle Pass railroad workers fear suspension of traffic will leave thousands unemployed and at risk of joining rebels or looting banks.
In a two hour clash on the outskirts of Lam pazos Carranza forces and Federal troops fought yesterday afternoon. The Federals were repulsed for the third time in as many days with heavy losses in a sharp engagement.
Gen Porfirio Diaz former Mexican president sails for Mexico and will be met in France by an escort committee of officers to accompany him home. The report places Diaz’s return in March with arrangements for his passage and reception.
Five hundred Federals moved to leave Agua Prieta at night and surrender the town to Constitutionalist forces amid fears of international complications. In El Tigre, a mining camp forty miles south, rebels attacked and a Federal detachment of 166 men surrendered.
Washington note: after a cabinet meeting Postmaster General Burleson said the administration’s policy toward Taft’s order pacing 35,000 third and fourth class postmasters is not yet settled. He added sympathy but argued it did not go far enough as many have been retained for political reasons rather than tests.
Senator Tillman said that persistent officeseekers remind him of a Bible line about wild asses in the desert breaking into green corn. He spoke on the matter amid political pressures and public attention.
W. D. Derr, under a four year old indictment for burglary, was brought in by Sheriff Orr from Durant Oklahoma. Derr is accused of burglarizing the home of Mrs. Hawk east of Durant more than four years ago.
A $3 million bond issue for prison construction or expansion faces a hard, likely close vote in the House. Opponents fear tax increases to fund the measure while supporters push for new or expanded facilities.
Austin reports a House session debating a penitentiary bond issue reduced to 2 million from 3 million with 7% to 43 vote. The Senate passed a common law marriage nullification bill and a marital rights conference measure. Also discussed were a penitentiary offense for newspapers contest activities and a pistol taking law.
Governor Colquitt signaled he will veto all bills creating new courts as several measures advance. Talks focus on unifying A&M and the University of Texas and moving A&M to Austin, with opposition anticipated. Other actions include highway department enactment, a 3600 salary for district judges, and a tax on autos.
T B Blair fell from a northbound streetcar on his way home to dinner Tuesday morning. He sustained no broken bones but suffered painful bruises and felt sick after fainting on the car front. He was helped by up-town residents, placed on a stretcher, and taken home for medical care.
E. P. Turner and Associates petition the Dallas City Commission for an extension of the carrier franchise over streets of Dallas. The request asks for additional time to commence interurban construction and related work within city rights of way.
Dallas associates led by E. P. Turner petition city to extend the start of construction by twelve months on the Dallas to Denton interurban and Dallas to Somervell route. They seek transfer of 4500 from a 15000 deposit to cover franchise taxes, naming numerous Dallas and area associates and noting Carter franchise acquisition. The Dallas commission will decide in days.
R. L. Dudley of Little Elm, brother of County Treasurer Will Nelson, witnessed Woodrow Wilson’s inauguration in Washington on March 4 as a Baylor University delegate. He was in Senator Morris Sheppard’s office when news arrived of Taft signing the public buildings bill including a $75,000 post office item for Denton.
F E Tobin announced on Tuesday that a new State bank has been organized in Aubrey with 20000 dollars in capital. Organizers include W P Ratchford F Caddel T L Mullins and J D Brown as stated by Tobin who expects a swift opening for business.
