The North and East endure a torrid heat wave with 93 degree readings by 3 PM. Prostrations rise with scores of cases and fourteen deaths in Philadelphia attributed to the heat, including five due to self harm and five from heart failure amid the scorching conditions.
An AP dispatch from Austin reports a blaze causing about 20000 in damage. Eighteen horses perished and twenty pianos were destroyed at the Wu Piper stable and Cabiniss warehouse. Several firemen were injured by falling glass as the flames spread.

Backers, including several officeholders, aim to heal the rift and persuade Col Roosevelt to quit as well for a unity candidate. Petitions will circulate nationally within a week with new party headquarters planned in Chicago and Portland. Osborn endorses Wilson and says loyal Republicans should reject malcontents. Norman E. Mack pledges New York party support for Gov. Wilson after talks in Sea Girt.
