A separate Belgrade note describes a deadly execution after a trial and a naval disaster near Sandy Hook with four drowned sailors.
The Council Bluffs Democrat reprints a Horace article alleging Grant was forced to resign after repeated intoxication and misconduct. The wife of Major Strange, late of the U S army, was killed near Little Rock by a black man to seize her eagle box. A notorious desperado named Wadahbt was dead near Clarksville, Texas, recently, killed by the sheriff and his deputy. The report notes increased spending on legislative expenses beyond Democrats’ prior levels.
The Newark Daily Advertiser reports an Ohio school enforcing extreme corseting and four inch heels for young women. Students endure two mile daily walks and a seventeen inch waist corset worn continuously for weeks, with fainting incidents but no lasting health harm claimed.
