The Associated Press reports cattlemen in the Midwest and West will decide the accuracy of President Truman's meat relief forecast. Grass-fed cattle are near record numbers, some fit for slaughter, some lean. Hog output lags, grain-fed cattle later. Marketing timing may influence the upcoming election impact.
The Raleigh County Young Republican Club reorganized at Fletcher Mann's office on Heber Street. Douglas Schwank, Woodrow Wilson High School instructor, was named president with Mary Scott, George Foy, Lois McDaniel, and Harvey Bailey as officers. Schwank outlined plans to contact eligible voters and recruit members, with weekly meetings set for Thursdays at 7 30 p m in the Raleigh County courthouse. Robert J. Ashworth presided. this was the second state meeting before the war. A morale note described the club's efforts to grow its ranks and engage young Republicans countywide.
West Virginia Motor Truck Association begins its first postwar convention in Clarksburg the 14th in an initial series. A more extensive two day program follows wartime meetings with speakers from American Trucking Association Detroit and Sun Oil Company plus state officials. An election of officers is planned amid parallel conferences across organization branches. Army advisory committee for West Virginia heard Col John E McMahon Jr outline a state military cooperation program at yesterday’s meeting in Charleston.
