U C W Pushes Drive To Retain War Gained Wages For Workers
The United Construction Workers Union seeks to broaden its base in Southern West Virginia and Southcentral Virginia amid fears high wartime wages will fall after the war. Region 11, based in Beckley, has surpassed 10,000 members across multiple trades, despite past blows from Walsh Healy Act and AFL split. The union, reentering the AFL path via District 50 of the UMW, aims to solidify gains and extend organizing in the construction field.
