Redistricting Will Strengthen State Governments
Washington (UPI) Senator Jennings Randolph of West Virginia argued that Supreme Court reapportionment rulings will strengthen state legislatures by ensuring population based apportionment. He criticized congressional efforts to delay or reverse the rulings, saying such moves entrench malapportionment and defy the Court. He said reapportionment will revitalise state governments and restore their role as equal partners with the federal government, noting rural dominance has left cities underserved and driven federal action in welfare urban renewal and slum clearance.
