Huge Niagara Falls Rock Collapse Shakes City
A vast portion of the brink of the American falls collapsed today in Niagara Falls. The 168-foot face shed a rock wall about 120 feet long at the top and 30 feet across at the bottom, tumbling into the gorge with a roar. Witnesses compared the tremor to an earthquake. Gazette staffer Tony Guinta reported buildings shaking like leaves in a breeze.

Arbitration Award Grants Wage Increases for NMU Seamen
Federal arbitrator James L. Fly ordered wage hikes for NMU seamen to reach parity with AFL seamen. The award lifts able seamen by 16 dollars monthly to 172.50 and firemen to 177.30, with smaller increases for other ranks, while shipowners and CMU hailed the decision as a path to ending the maritime strike. The NMU insists a signed contract is needed before ceasing the walkout, and Fly noted West Coast ties but said broader decisions may follow within a week.
