Ministers gain pay raises at West Virginia conference
West Virginia Methodist ministers voted minimum annual salaries of 1000 for supply pastors and 1300 for regular ministers at the eighth annual conference. The raises, about 100 a year, were urged by Presiding Bishop James H Straughn who joked about future ministerial pay and the sacrifices ministers make. In Miami a snake in a chimney led police to smoke out the animal, revealing a red bird as the unexpected result.
