PCC Agrees On Code Change But Deadlocked On Process
Pacific Coast Conference leaders from nine schools plus one absent met to discuss revisions to the athletic code governing aid to football players and other athletes. Some favored a stricter code, others a lenient approach, with plans from the Ivy League and the Big Ten under consideration and a PCC committee proposal on the table. Dr. Sproul noted another Presidents' Council meeting in about a month to reach concrete recommendations. The current code had faced penalties for illegal aid from alumni and boosters, and the proposed plan would standardize a work program covering room, board, books, and laundry with a monthly stipend, plus campus or off campus work hours, to meet educational costs.
