In Springfield Illinois the Republican National Committee activated a Teletype linked communications hub to connect Goldwater headquarters with state central committees in Michigan Indiana Wisconsin and Minnesota. The system, operating at 1500 words per minute, relays schedules speeches and confidential guidance to hubs in Boston New York Birmingham Lincoln Austin Phoenix and San Diego plus San Francisco.
