The Fayette County project advances with a separate jail kitchen staff quarters and a new building that includes a jailer office and drive in entry for courtroom appearances. Prior layout had meals carried across the yard and prisoners walked through halls to court. Exterior vault walls and roof near county clerk work complete. interior finishing remains.
Dr and Mrs Phillip Mazzocchi of Arlington Virginia announce the birth of a son Monday named David Phillips weighing seven pounds one ounce Dr Mazzocchi is the son of Mr and Mrs Phillip Mazzocchi of Fayetteville Insurance Commissioner Harold Neely said 18 persons will be licensed Monday as resident agents and solicitors including Charles W Bailey of Montgomery
The Fayette County Education Board reports all teaching positions for the county filled after the term start. Resignations were accepted from several staff, and multiple transfers and new hires announced across Fayetteville area schools. The Rebecca Chapel Church in Rock Creek hosted the wedding of Thelma Cantley to Lee Boggs with attendance from local families. The bride and groom, both from Rock Creek, plan to reside in Cleveland, Ohio.
Fayette County native Rear Admiral Claud Ashton Jones will have a Navy destroyer named in his honor. The USS Claud Ashton Jones, hull number under construction in New Orleans, is to be christened at Santo Domingo City with Jones' daughter and widow among those attending. Members of his family, including Navy Capt. Frank Jones, were expected to witnessed the ceremony in New Orleans on the launch date set for the ship.
Keen an Erwin 22 of Edwight died in Whitesville after a truck struck him while crossing Sundial Street. He suffered a fractured skull and other injuries and was hospitalized at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley before his death. The driver Edmund Scarbro of Rock Creek gave no charges have been filed. Rebekah Lodge will attend funeral services at First Baptist Church.
COLCORD West Virginia RNS Rev and Mrs Jack Weller marked their fifth anniversary in the Coal River Area after moving from New York. In a sermon on Psalm 139 they described five years in the valley as joyful and growth-filled, stressing God’s guidance and the slow but necessary work of the church.
Mount Hope Arkansas news notes the Mount Hope Junior Woman's Club sets a full year with continued local and state projects. Activities include adoption visits to Pinecrest patient, Veterans Hospital outreach, wound stamp drives, and the City Beautiful and natural resources programs. New officers and district Federation plans are announced as 18 members meet at the Mount Hope Lions Club.
Five coal companies will join the C R Mine Institute in Madison for the 20th safety meet. Teams from Armco Steels, Boone County Coal, Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates, Red Fox Coal, and Traux-Tracr Coal will compete in a two hour event starting 2:15 PM with team registration at the Madison Hotel and prizes awarded by Mine Safety Appliance, United Mine Workers, and the National Coal Association.
Six extension courses from Concord College and West Virginia University will be offered at Pineville High School. Enrollment accepted next Monday. Courses include Social Studies 101 Geography 392 World Problems Biology 403 Sociology 243 Anthropology 244 and Personality. No Morris Harvey College extension classes this year.
Thomas R. Twaddle, longtime in state government since 1950 and acting director of purchases, has been named administrator of the Wyoming Department of Finance and Administration. He succeeds in July and will assume duties Sept. 1.
